Together, we are building a Uganda where every woman enters her 'Second Spring' with her head held high, her health protected, and her voice heard. “TOLI WEKKA” recognizes that menopause does not affect women alone—it affects families, workplaces, and societies.
Toli Wekka
“Toli Wekka” is a Luganda phrase meaning “You are not alone.” Luganda is spoken by the Baganda people, a Bantu-speaking community in Uganda. The phrase carries deep emotional meaning—reassurance, belonging, and collective care. The TOLI WEKKA Program was created by Menopause Initiative Uganda (MIU) to speak directly to women in rural and underserved communities—especially women who were denied formal education and access to health information.
By using a local language of comfort and trust, TOLI WEKKA breaks fear, silence, and stigma around menopause. It tells every woman, gently and clearly:
You are seen.
You are heard.
You are not alone.
This is a community-based physiotherapy and menopause support program designed to reach ageing and menopausal women across Uganda and Africa, particularly those living in underserved and marginalized communities.
MIU delivers holistic, women-centred care to women experiencing menopause-related challenges, including bone health conditions, neurological disorders such as stroke, musculoskeletal pain, disabilities, non-communicable diseases, and mental health concerns.
This program responds to a growing but often ignored reality across Uganda. Menopause is deeply linked to health equity, dignity, ageing, productivity, and social justice, yet remains under-addressed in health systems worldwide.
Our organization is involved in activities that restore dignity, confidence, and hope to African women navigating Menopause—often in isolation, shame, or misunderstanding.
Our team reaches out to different communities to educate, sensitize and provide relevant information on menopause. Menopause is one topic that is being neglected among the ageing women and men with little or no knowledge about it. Many women are suffering silently with bone health and mental health issues that are caused by menopausal challenges. We bring forth the different and most critical issues that affect menopausal women to support them to enjoy this stage of life.
For us to provide treatment to our beneficiaries, we organize health camps within their communities. We work with partners to provide medication, consultancy, lectures on menopause, and exercises to the community people. We focus on providing Hormonal Replacement Therapy to menopausal women and encourage them on the different foods and nutritional supplements they are supposed to use.
Women openly discuss menopausal symptoms, emotional changes, social challenges, and lived realities. Through collective dialogue, Women reduce depression, anxiety, stigma, isolation, and gender-based violence linked to Menopause.
