"We envision a world where the transition into later life is celebrated as a season of wisdom and vitality, free from fear and cultural shame."

Our Values

At Menopause Initiative Uganda, we’re proud that our founder, Irene Ndagire, was the first person to articulate that women in Menopause are still people, not the possessions of adults, and therefore deserve to have their own fundamental rights. Over the past years, we’ve been standing up for the rights of Women in Uganda who are in Menopause, supporting Women to be healthy, learn and thrive, calling for their protection in times of marriage conflict and supporting families to be resilient.

Our dream is a world where menopause is not a silent struggle but a celebrated transition. In Uganda and across the globe, we see a future where every woman accesses the care, respect, and resources she deserves as she ages. MIU exists to transform the menopause experience through systemic change. We move beyond temporary fixes to address the root causes of stigma and health inequality, ensuring that marginalized voices lead the conversation in policy and healthcare.

Our Strategic Goal

To promote Women’s wellbeing through a comprehensive community-based health care approach that ensures positive social change

Promote holistic Women’s wellbeing through a comprehensive community-based healthcare approach. We don’t just provide information; we catalyze positive social change that reshapes how families, workplaces, and the healthcare system treat Menopausal Women.

We lead with our hearts. We listen first, because every journey is unique and every story matters.Henca believe Menopause support is a right, not a privilege. Our resources serve all Women, regardless of background or socioeconomic status.

The Pulse of Our Trust

We don’t just talk about change; we embody it. In a world where Women’s health is often commercialized, MIU stands firm in ethical Menopause care. Our commitment to honesty means we provide evidence-based information, ensuring that every Woman—regardless of her socio-economic status—receives the truth about her body and her rights.

In many cultures, Menopause has been whispered about in shadows, associated with “ending” or “fading.” At Menopause Initiative Uganda, we are flipping the script. We view menopause as a powerful transition of leadership and wisdom.

Our Core Objectives

To turn our vision into reality, MIU focuses on four pillars of impact:

  • Breaking the Silence: Decreasing the stigma of menopause through the power of storytelling and shared experiences.

  • Holistic Empowerment: Sensitizing women of all ages to manage physical and mental changes effectively.

  • The Wellness Sanctuary: Constructing a dedicated Women’s Wellness Center to provide specialized treatment, physical fitness, and psychotherapy.

  • Economic Resilience: Strengthening women-led income-generating activities to ensure financial barriers never stand in the way of essential treatment.

The Values That Guide Us

Our work is anchored in five core principles that ensure we remain a trusted partner to the women of Uganda and the international community:

  • Teamwork: We believe in the power of “Ubuntu”—we are reliable and work together to achieve the extraordinary.

  • Integrity: We uphold the highest moral principles of honesty, trust, and honor in every interaction.

  • Accountability: We are ethical stewards of every resource and community asset entrusted to us.

  • Professionalism: We provide competent, hardworking, and ethical leadership in the field of women’s health.

  • Empowerment: We don’t just help; we equip. We provide the skills and information necessary for women to take charge of their health.

Beyond Service Delivery

While others may provide one-off services, MIU focuses on systemic change. Our work sits at the intersection of health, mental wellbeing, dignity, and social justice. We don’t just address symptoms; we address the structures that marginalize women as they age.

  • Advocacy: Influencing national policy to include menopausal health in public health frameworks.

  • Education: Providing evidence-based information on the stages of menopause and treatment options.

  • Systems Change: Partnering with institutions to create “Menopause Friendly” environments.
